Outlaw John

On 23 July 2017 Chiltern Tri member John O'Grady successfully completed OUTLAW triathlon a full ironman distance event (2.4 mile swim/112 mile bike/26.2 mile run) raising £2,335 for the mental health charity SANE in memory of a good friends son 'Harry Lisle' who sadly committed suicide aged 15.

When Holly spoke with John he stated it was his first and last (!!!) long distance event having never even ran a marathon prior to Outlaw!

John's story:

To mark the midlife crisis of turning 50 this year I have decided to have a go at a long distance Triathlon (aka an Ironman). The “Outlaw” in Nottingham on 23 July to be specific. It's 3.8km of swimming, followed by 112 miles of cycling and then a full marathon, (hopefully) all on the same day! Back in the autumn, having checked my wife could put up with being an “Ironman widow” for 6 or 7 months I had to address those first-world problems of-“how can I fit in the time to train?”, “what will I look like if I shave my legs?”. Meanwhile one of my oldest friends and his family were going through unimaginably more serious traumas- losing their 15 year old son to suicide. So I'm going to put all the blood, sweat and blisters to good use by raising sponsorship for Sane- the UK’s leading mental health charity, dedicated to improving the life of anyone affected by mental illness, including family, friends & carers. If you'd like to help me raise money for this very worthwhile cause then hopefully we can do a little to help prevent other families going through the trauma of losing a family member to suicide. Thank you for your support!

A big well done to John! Please see his fundraising page:
